Cucuron

Located in the South Luberon and only a few minutes from the Jardins de Sitaara, Cucuron, which is part of the Parc Naturel Régional du Luberon, is a magnificent little village, typically Provencal and with a slightly old-fashioned charm. Take the time to discover this little nugget, to stroll through its narrow streets, to taste an ice cream by the pond in the shade of its two hundred year old plane trees, or to admire the reddish roofs at sunset from the Saint Michel keep.Bathed in 300 days of sunshine a year, ideally located near Vaugines, Ansouis and Lourmarin, Cucuron is also a stone's throw from the Bouches-du-Rhône department, only 40 minutes by car from Aix-en-Provence (35 kilometres), 1 hour from Marseille (65 kilometres), Cassis and its creeks, but also 1 hour from Avignon and 45 minutes from l'Isle sur la Sorgue.

Places not to be missed in the South of Luberon

Lauris

The village is built on a rocky spur between the Durance and the Luberon mountains. The winding streets, lined with houses (16th and 17th), evoke the ancient history of a village living under the shelter of its ramparts. The castle overlooks the terraced gardens where the conservatory of dye plants is located.

Vaugines

Only a few kilometers from Cucuron, Vaugines has kept its authentic and pure Provencal charm which resides essentially in its picturesque narrow streets and vaulted staircases, its small squares and its beautiful houses. Claude Berri succumbed to the old-fashioned charm of this pretty village for part of the filming of Manon des Sources and Jean de Florette.

Vaugines is also the point of convergence of several long-distance hiking trails which allow hikers, cyclists and horseback riders to discover the Luberon, its flora and fauna

Lourmarin

Classified as one of the most beautiful villages in France, its profile perched on a small hill is punctuated by three bell towers and by a multitude of small streets that turn around the heart of the village. Beautiful stores, galleries and restaurants highlight today the beautiful houses of character, witnesses of the history of Lourmarin. In season, there are many shows in the courtyard of the castle (Concerts, open-air cinema, theater ...) and animations in the center of the village as the Music Festival (June 21). The cemetery of Lourmarin at the exit of the village towards Lauris is also a place of pilgrimage for admirers of Albert Camus, the tradition is to leave a small pen on his grave.

In the heart of the Luberon regional natural park, in this mythical and preserved landscape of Provence, Buoux is nestled in olive trees, thyme and lavender fields.

Saignon

This village, also very high perched, stretches at the top of a hill, between the Petit Luberon and the plateau of Claparèdes. Village of character, Saignon attracts the curiosity of visitors by its massive shape that is similar to a castle. In reality, it is a fortified rock that is nicknamed the Rock of Bellevue. The village is charming and deserves to lose itself in its narrow streets and slopes to discover some beautiful squares and fountains.

The Combe of lourmarin

The Combe de Lourmarin is a valley carved by the Aiguebrun river and separating the Luberon massif into two distinct parts, the Petit Luberon to the west and the Grand Luberon to the east. It is the only road that allows you to pass from one side of the Luberon to the other. It starts in Apt or Bonnieux on the north side and arrives in Lourmarin on the south side. You can discover this combe by the road, magnificent, but also thanks to many marked paths in the middle of the wilderness

The Luberon Regional Nature Park

Covering two departments, the Vaucluse and the Alpes de Haute Provence, the Luberon Regional Nature Park, which extends over 185,000 hectares, has an exceptional natural heritage. It has been classified as a biosphere reserve and a world geopark by UNESCO. You will appreciate the diversity of the landscapes, which alternate between scrubland, forests, oak groves, plains, hills, vineyards, orchards and rocky areas such as the Petit Luberon and the Monts de Vaucluse, where canyons and rock faces remain the favourite habitat of birds of prey. Located in the Grand Luberon, the Mourre Nègre, which rises to an altitude of 1,125 metres, is the highest point of the park.
